Elements Art Gallery

I created this logo for an art gallery in Lyons, GA. The art gallery is part of a restaurant named Elements Bistro and Grill so the art gallery’s name is Elements Art Gallery or EA Gallery as it became known. Working with the idea of 'elements', I tried to incorporate as many elements of art as possible in a clear simple minimalist style. Curved lines are seen in the circle of the 'E' and 'A' as well as straight lines in the cross members; together, giving it shape. Color is represented by the red which also gives it a feeling of energy and confidence. Space is more obvious in the logo because its wherever red is not. The background image is a closeup of a painting I did, manipulated as organic but somewhat metallic as well. This was done because the art gallery was designed around natural materials like wood and brick mixed with industrial elements like metal handrails and the white lighting tracks and air conditioning. The image along with a small drop shadow gives the logo texture, and more abstractly form. I chose a typeface that had the style of straight and curved lines that matched the logo and then adjusted the letters to help unify the logo.

This was not only a graphic design project but it was a complete design and building project from the ground up ... and I mean that literally. A friend owned some old, burned down, abandoned building in a small downtown city in Georgia. We joined forces and created a completely unique experience of dining and art in this little country town. The Idea was a fine dining restaurant and an art gallery side by side. People can browse the art gallery and sip wine while they wait for tables. I was the building designer, making decisions from the shape of concrete retaining walls to the tint color of glass. I designed major structural changes, handrail design, colors, fixtures, etc. I also was one of the major builders involved with welding, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, tile and countless other tasks. After the completion of the project, I assumed the role of starting the gallery. First I researched and bought hanging and lighting systems. I found artists from all over the Southeast and collaborated with several galleries in Savannah to rotate art. I wrote up contracts, arranged transportation, created labels, advertisements and the like.

Below you can see before and after pics of the gallery as well as an example of the logo design process for this project.
